Project managers and other leaders who want to experiment with Agile software development must try to understand a bewildering array of Agile variants. Many look at the 12 principles in the Agile Manifesto and ask, "Which ones are most important and fundamental (the 'leading actors') and which are secondary ('supporting actors')?"
Mr. Greene will suggest and defend an answer to this question by drawing on his personal experiences and the thoughts of several signers of the Manifesto.
The first part of the talk will cover:
- A quick review of the 12 principles.
- Which 3 Agile principles qualify as "lead" actors and why.
- How the remaining principles play different types of "supporting" roles.
The remainder of the talk will examine how the "leading/supporting" distinction adds clarity to other common questions such as:
- What is my organization already doing that qualifies as Agile?
- Which flavor of Agile should we start with and how should we customize it?
Who should attend: (1) Project managers, executives, business analysts and technical staff who are relatively new to Agile, (2) People with some experience with Agile who want a new way to briefly explain the fundamental essence of Agile and why it is a trend rather than a fad.
[Note: Attendees will get more out of the talk if they read the
12 Principles and the
main page of the Manifesto ahead of time.]
